Sloppy Jo’s Just Like Sloppy Joe’s

-when you want something quick and tastes good, nothin’ beats a hearty Sloppy Jo.  Here I attempt to match the flavor of the original (and the best!) from Sloppy Joe’s at the corner of Duval & Green Streets in Key West.

Ingredients:

1 pound ground chuck
Garlic & onion
(fresh minced or powder,
to taste)
Some Carrots & Jalapeno slices from a bottle if La Preferida Jalapeno Nacho Slices, diced (& don’t omit the carrots, they add to the taste as well as the color)
2 green peppers, diced
1 large bottle ketchup
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
1 tablespoon molasses
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
Salt & black pepper, to taste
8 burger buns

Directions:

Brown the meat and the onion in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat for 5 minutes, breaking up the meat into crumbles as it cooks. Pour the drippings out of the pan and discard. Add the garlic, carrots/jalapeño  and green peppers and cook 5 minutes more, stirring occasionally. Stir in the rest of the ingredients, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 5 minutes more. Place a scoop of the mixture onto each bun and serve.

Note: thicken with a little  Wondra flour, if desired

    1. Sure I do, I’ll be missing burning my tastebuds and heartburn 😋

      I might try “a little” in it.. Because I really enjoyed the cornbread from Moe’s and they used a little minced jalapeño.. I do like that pepper’s taste, just not the pain that follows soon after..

    Question, Ketchup comes in some really big bottles now, about how many ounces to use per pound of beef ?

    1. Sorry about that, I knew what size I mean, lol. It’s that middle sized bottle (the one you store upside down). Have to get back to you with the ounces.
