Nana’s Special Plum Pie

This is one of those great generation-to-generation recipes. Do not deviate from this recipe, it is perfection!


Sift together:
1 1/2 cups AP flour
3 TBSP granulated white sugar
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

1/4 cup butter
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp almond extract

Mix together to form a dough and press into a 8″ or 9″ pie pan.

Lay ripe purple plums, evenly sliced, on dough and sprinkle with 1/4 cup granulated white sugar.

Mix following together to form a crumb topping:
1/2 cup AP flour
1/4 cup granulated white sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
4 TBSP butter
1 bag slivered almonds

Evenly cover the plums in the pie pan with almond crumb topping.
Bake in a preheated 350F degree oven for 30 minutes.

Excellent served warm with vanilla ice cream!!

    1. If you like plums even a little bit, you will love this pie. My mother-in-law (& I ) only made this wonderful pie when purple plums are in season. Excellent served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

    Thanks for checking out “On The Road”.
    I probably won’t be posting a photo of this pie anytime soon since being “Empty Nesters” , I don’t bake sweets as much as I used to (too much temptation:) You’ll just have to trust me, if you like purple plums and crumb topping, you’ll love this pie.
    People have been tempted to omit the slivered almonds but, that toasty almond flavor in the crumb topping is key to this pie’s overall yumminess.
